What Special Ops: Lioness Is
Lioness takes its name from a real programme: female service members embedded with combat units to engage women in the field, which the series extends into a CIA operation that plants an operative inside a target's personal life. It is the most procedural thing Sheridan has made, and the most explicitly about the cost of using people as tools.
Zoe Saldaña plays Joe, who runs the programme and cannot run her own household; Nicole Kidman is Kaitlyn Meade, the Washington operator who decides what Joe is allowed to know. Morgan Freeman and Michael Kelly round out a cast unusually stacked even by Sheridan standards.
Season 1 landed in July 2023 and Season 2 followed in late 2024. Season 3 premieres on 2 August 2026 with a new mission and a tighter focus on Joe — hidden networks, foreign operatives and personal betrayals, per Paramount+ — releasing weekly through a 20 September finale.
It is also the clearest showcase of how Sheridan writes institutions: the enemy is rarely the person on the other end of the mission, it is the chain of command that authorised it.
