What Those Who Wish Me Dead Is
Adapted from Michael Koryta's novel, with Koryta and Charles Leavitt sharing the script credit alongside Sheridan, the film puts a traumatised smokejumper and a witness-in-hiding in the same forest as two professional killers and an advancing wildfire.
It arrived in May 2021 as a simultaneous theatre and HBO Max release, in the middle of the pandemic window that flattened a lot of mid-budget films, and it is the most conventional genre exercise in his filmography.
What it does share with his television is Montana itself — filmed in the same landscape that Yellowstone had already made famous, with a similar interest in wilderness competence as a form of character.
Sheridan has not directed a feature since; his output moved almost entirely to television, and his next film work will come under the NBCUniversal deal that begins after his Paramount television commitments end.
